The Concept

The concept of Docs as Code (DAC) could be seen as convoluted (with concepts like micro-volunteering, crowdfunding, open innovation, gamification, and eCommerce all baked-in), but the end result for users is straight-forward.

In short, DAC is a platform where volunteers, including first-time learners, can write documentation for real API's (Application Programming Interfaces). The site helps motivate volunteers to do this by matching them with "requesters" who are willing to give donations to nonprofits fighting homelessness in return. Thus, the name "Docs As Abode". Volunteers can, through their efforts, turn documentation into housing for the homeless.

In my project proposal, (a snippet from it can be seen on the left), I explained that I would design a user interface that would help connect volunteers and people who needed API documentation (for their app's API) in an online-workplace and marketplace.

I set out with the goal of making a prototype that could show off a few key elements of its functionality and be understood by technical writers and those studying developer documentation. (Spoiler alert) It was a success!
